Seems a lot of y'all don't care for my attitude, or way of addressing issues, or other members....
Well here I am. Let it go. Why go to another site, where I'm not a member to bitch and raise cain? Why bastardize newbies posts with critisms of me?

This IS the Rant 'n' Rave section, after all....let it fly.

Please Becky, let 'em say whatever they want, maybe as long as they get it off their chests, the newbies can at least post in peace. And as long as I'm their target, they'll leave someone else alone. Cause I really don't care, and I'm sure I can bear anything they have on their minds.

Kliff,
I am a newbie here and do not know what you have been saying. Sounds like you were exercising your right to express your opinion. I did not know that was a bad thing. I will have to be careful then, because I have that same habit.
I may not always agree with someone, but that is OK because not every one will agree with me. It would be a very dull world if they did. I would also miss the new views on a problem, even if they do not agree with mine. I would still respect their opinion, even though they are wrong. After 21 years of Law Enforcement experience, I have learned to listen to everyone's side of the story. You need as much information about the situation as you can get. Then you need to pick out the logical parts of what everyone is telling you to get the real answer.
What you are right about is the part about is the fact that there are many fewer post, and more useful content, that is what guided me to this post.
That is my OPINION,

I've been busy working on a bike rather than keeping up with the jonesés...somebody wanna clue me in here ?

edit: nevermind, I see what you're on about.

Kliff, I moderate a few forums and subscribe to dozens.
When you meet somebody in a bar or at a rally or wherever you have the advantage of body language, facial expressions, and a myriad of other clues that helps them determine whether they want to buy you a beer or bust a cap in your ass. On the internet, unfortunately, you only have some typed out words that can be taken in any way the reader sees fit. So expect to offend some people. I do it a lot, usually unintentionally. I don't lose sleep over it.

It's really hard to understand how all the "us vs, them" and friction began with a single exchange between two people and has evolved into an ongoing display of attitudes.

It's pointless really. Get over it! The Balkanization of owners groups and websites benefits no one.

Let me elaborate since you ASKED for feedback in this thread. I didn't know you from a hill of beans. Our only interaction was in this post:

Probably because noone is accepting pending memberships.... mine has been limbo couple of months...

Odd, 2 folks have signed on in the last week...there is NO aproval process. But if your spam filters catch the verification e-mail....you could have a problem.

It does stay nice and quiet, no name calling, back stabbing, or profiling. Just an occassional newbie passing through, posting a time or 2 until they get their bearings, then they are off and about!

As for "taking off," it was NEVER meant to take off. It was simply a waiting room, for those in "limbo" trying to join the RIMC during the Glenn Hamilton days. Most moved on over to the RIMC when approved, as it was planned. I simply use it as an open notebook to keep stuff, ramble on, post some pics, and links, like the RIMC, Soviet Steeds, BillyG's page, the DDS..... heck I might even start a slot car section, if that's where my interests take me.... so it's doubtful it will ever be for all, but it suits me just fine.

So if you're having problems, you can contact me directly, or check your spam filters....have a nice day beer chug.gif

PS....oh, and Dan, for any member checking the member list, you are listed on the rolls. So I ain't got a clue where the "in limbo" for a couple of months remark must originate.

I think my first clue is when it tells me:
QUOTE
Account Pending Approval
Currently your account is waiting for approval from a staff member. Once an administrator has approved your account you will get access to this forum.

And this is a perfect example of the feedback you are getting (and refusing to honestly see).

From your reply to me, this is what I take away:

1) First off, you are calling me a liar that I am having trouble registering with the site mentioned. You didn't believe me. How do I know, because you went and checked. And you clearly found the evidence that you were looking for proving that I must be lying. If you had perhaps a different attitude, you might have dug deeper and found that indeed my account was pending activation, and you could have just poked the "activate" button to actually help me instead of ridiculing me, but NO, you had to be right and lay the blame at my feet.

2) Next, you are calling me stupid, because, if I'm having problems after all, it must be on my end. I'm just too stupid to know to check for pending activation emails in my spam folder. No trouble found on your end, so perhaps I'm stupid.

So, not only are you calling me a liar, you are calling me stupid. And your feeble attempt to "offer help" seems a bit sincere.

FURTHER, you are paranoid that perhaps I had ulterior motives in posting my remark. Perhaps you are feeling just a wee bit guilty. I had no idea the site I was trying to register to was "yours". Perhaps if I did, I might have reconsidered... LOL.

Anyway, I hope you find some learnings in this feedback. I hope the owners of this site do too. I've seen many forums DIE because of rude and pompous postings by "lead" members that went unchecked. This forum has enough problems holding members without allowing bad behavior to continue. Sure, there will be a constant stream of newbies coming in, but they too will be bullied and leave for more friendly climes.

This is especially unfortunate for a Dealer Board. This isn't is just a forum for the free exchange of ideas, it is a portal to their store. You think I'm more or less inclined to send them my money when I'm called a liar and stupid on a forum they sanction? Not hard to guess. I have other options for my online Ural parts and accessories where I'm not insulted online.

Before, RIF was pretty much the only game in town for heavy duty Ural information. But now, I as a consumer of internet information have options, and will take my eyes and my mind-share to other forums where I'm not treated so badly, and certainly not by an apparent "lead member" whose boarish behavior is permitted.

This is my last post. The owner/moderators can delete my account. I won't be back.

Jeez... sensitive... fair enough though, I suppose...

You should've been here last year - it was a real free-for-all laugh.gif

Politics, race, immigration, guns - almost everything but bikes...

I see that around 80% of the RIMC crowd have moved over to Soviet Steeds and seem to be posting there more than here these days.

I also see that there is less political crap there than there used to be here, from the same people. That's good. But perhaps it's just in that section of the forum I don't read... feels-good.gif

Anyway... I have an RIMC patch on my bike jacket - took me an age to sew it on by hand - I even have another patch waiting to go on... guess life is too short for sewing and arguing....

I'm happy wherever there's useful info and nice people. That could be here or there, or B-Cozz or DneprHeads... plenty to chose from, all good people...

Take it east and easy, DM!

…You joined this site just recently and already we are in Rant 'n' Rave, talking things out...
Kliff, I am not a radical person. I rarely take sharp turns, regardless if on a racetrack or in life. I tend to watch, listen and make up my own mind before to follow others in their hysteria. Maybe that's why it took me long enough to also join SS. Do I visit RI less since I joined SS? Not at all. As a matter of fact I log in to both at the same time. I have friends on RI and SS. I doble post too... I will be honest with you - I liked it when we were all here and I miss it...

Please take a look at your member number. It is right next to your nick. It's in the 3000 ranges, isn't it? It's a very good number. It is a testament to the spirit of the RI members and the camaraderie that kept this site growing. Many of those members felt comfortable in the "free for all" format of RI, letting out their personal feelings on the pages of "Whatever" and "Rant" (may it be political or just some daily life observations) just as much as they contributed to the Nuts and Bolts and other forums. In my view some of them were the building blocks of what the RI is today. Many of them helped me and other technically challenged individuals to understand and learn the machinery at hand. Many still do. Many of them kept us focused, positive and kept the fire going when we were ready to give up on this old (or new) piece of iron. I didn't mind the "mixed bag" of individuals and their posts (trust me, there was plenty of mixing there). In fact, I liked it because it was a way to not only learn about our bikes, but also to interact with the members and learn about them, become good friends though never seeing them in person. Mourn the ones who perished and help the ones in trouble even if by offering a suggestion or a word of encouragement. It was a very personal and tightly knitted community. And so when the era of "free for all" ended and RI settled into the more directed site, some of them chose to stick to the familiar format, created and joined a new site... Pity you missed it Kliff... Pity you weren't there all these years... Pity you didn't get to be one of them... Pity you don't have enough respect for these people and just keep on joking at the expense of the very people who helped to build RI into what it is now - your favorite Ural site... You missed it Kliff because you simply weren't here and so most of the great things that took place here didn't include you. And now you are here. Now it is your chance to be all that RI is all about. And so what will you do?...
You joined this site just recently and already we are in Rant 'n' Rave, talking things out and this really IS a pity, because I would rather talk to you about life, bikes and all other stuff that happens in between...and so I offer you a simple question - do you care what kind of legacy, what footprint you are leaving on the pages of RI , does it matter to you?

VERY WELL SAID Mracer!! thumbsup!.gif

Dub, I also agree with your point regarding online interaction. All one has to go by, when meeting someone else online, is their "written word" and the perceived tone in which it was written. I have read many posts from Kliff, with the believe that he was just not coming across properly, so I gave it time...I TRIED to give him the benefit of the doubt....however, there is no doubt. I have learned a lot from quite a few members here and on Soviet Steeds. I have purchased a seat cover from Rich Maund and have followed his and others advice many times. So, do I give two S**ts about Kliff? Not at all....it is easy to block and just not read his posts. I will say that as a not so new-newbie, my only advice to other new and potential Ural owners, is just take everything Kliff says with quite a few rains of salt, and remember one thing....he is always right! feels-good.gif

Out.

I tell my children that the internet is like walking down the street. You meet all different types of people. As in life I tell them to be polite, be careful, don't talk to strangers, defend yourself if needed, etc. I visit this site as well as the other Ural related web sites. I try to be courteous and sometimes I do express my opinions. As far as technical questions I have (and I do have quite a few as a newbie) I always show respect as if I'm meeting someone in person. I was tought early on that common courtesy is a reflection of who you are. It will take you far. A while back we had a gentleman on this board that basically would stir up arguement for the sake of arguement. After a while of this Glenn block him from admission. Before Glenn did that I posted to that gentleman that I would ignore his posts and that for me he no longer existed. Shortly after that he was banned because he upset so many others. I guess what I'm saying is that politeness goes far. I'm glad for these websites. I'm glad I have several places I can go for help with my Ural. I'm glad I can share good times and bad with so many people who have a common bond. I choose to be civil, be sincere, and be a gentleman. Walk softly, but carry a big stick.......

Alrighty then!

Everyone feel better now? I've been summarily accused and convicted of calling folks "stupid and liars," and had the senioritry card pulled on me, declared "always right" (I wish! But that will never happen, with me or anyone else. I ain't laughed so hard in all my life....you guys are too much!

But at least some of the new guys are finding a place to post, without undue interference....so keep it coming guys. As long as the new guys got a place to post, and can get thorough sensible answers, it's all good.

Anyway....had a great time in Daytona and the Ocala Nat'l Forest for a week....
