I got a couple of e-mails and a phone call from some folks trying to sign up for membership to the RIMC forums.

Why they are calling and e-mailing me, I don't know. I'm not the owner of the site, nor a moderator, nor an administrator.

I'm just just somebody who doesn't have a life and a "RIMC chronic". laugh.gif

I gave Glenn Hamilton, the site owner, a telephone call (not hard to do if you know how to use the internet white pages and what city to look in) and he tells me that because of all the spam and phishing e-mails that were flying in here a few months ago, they had to upgrade the forums software and added a verfication process for new members.

New members have to enter in a series of numbers/letters (to prevent automated "bots" from signing up and spamming) and once that is complete, a pending membership is added to a queue in the back end of the board. Glenn then has to manually review the application and verfiy that it's a valid e-mail address. He usually does this once a week (he has a life). Once that is completed then the new member gets a validation e-mail to let them become full members.

Yeah, it's a pain in the butt, but we haven't had any spam in here since Glenn enabled this policy, which is a very good thing! cool.gif

So please, to all of the prospective RIMC members, please be patient. Glenn will get ya hooked up eventually. It's worth the wait. thumbsup!.gif

If ya got any questions, ping Glenn Hamilton, just look up his profile (hint - he goes by the name "Glenn Hamilton" here), and send him an e-mail.

Keep up the good work Glenn, and thanks for giving us all a virtual watering hole to congregate at! beer chug.gif

So that explains why it was such a pain in the arse to get an account running.
Well, I feel like a complete jerk for emailing the site owner (twice to inquire about the state of an account).

I do a lot of ribbing and what not about the board, but to be serious, your explanaition hits the botton. This shud be on the introductory page so as to not turn off any legit prospective members, I for one am very short with web sites that screen you out, I can acess the Ural web site from my computer in alaska, but not from the one in Wisc. ended up not even bothering to try to acess the Ural site anymore, even tho I own three Urals. It will reduce one's enthusiam for the mark by being excluded, so like others this is my watering hole.......Ken
