Hi.

Im from Norway and new on the forum. I bought a new Dnepr mt16 in 1993, had that for some years until it was run over by a truck(it was standing still, i was not on it biggrin.gif ). I have allways been driving bikes, but missed the russian iron.
So this week i found a used 1993 Dnepr mt16 on www.finn.no in Egersund, thats 400 km away from me, and i bought it just by pics.
It have been driven 1500 km, the seller says everything is ok on the bike. So i take the chance, i go by train to Egersund tonight, and will drive it home tomorrow(Friday).

Here is my route:

As you understad it is some years since i been on the road with a Dnepr, any good advices on the trip? What i should bring, tools etc?
What is the good speed to go in? Anything? beer chug.gif

I will put out pics and stuff of the trip.

Thake it home on a trailer if you want to come home on friday.... The bike is almost not run at all, expect that a lot is out of adjustment. I would have take it home on a trailer and sortet everything out before the first long trip.

Any way, it can be a fun and exciting trip!

A lot of tools will help, also some new sparkplugs (NGK BP7HS), expect that the carburettors are out of adjustment and will destroy your plugs. If the engine start to blow oil everywere, take of the ventilation tube (between engine and air cleaner), in cold weather it will freeze.

With 1500 on the clock, the engine is not broken in, take it easy (60 - 70 km/t).

Be aware of draging brakes

Check the spokes

Bring oil (20-50), and check the oil level regulary (dip stick resting on the threads, not screwed in)

Check out Norsk russisk motorsykkel forening

Have a nice trip!

Det er flere russerkjørere du passerer på veien! Sjekk "Styret" på hjemmesiden, tror du passerer tre av de som står oppført der.

God tur! thumbsup!.gif

So it was you that bought that bike. I saw it on Finn. I live in Stavanger and have a Dnepr MT11 na an MT16. If you need any help end me a message and I'll send you my number. There are a few of us up here that hang around together and go on Treff. We also go on the Vårsleppet on the first of May although no all the way down to Eigersund as we have children and wive on board the bikes.

Erling, how does your MT16 compare with an MT16 in the snow? Mine tends to spin the sidecar wheel. Sounds like a job for the differential lock from Oldtimer.

Bill!
My beloved MT16 havent seen snow the last years/after I installed the differential lock, so I'm not sure how the differential lock work on snow. But, I have only good experience with the MT16 without d.-lock on snow and ice. (you have probarly got some more juice out of the engine than I!). What kind of tyres do you use? I have always used the russian millitary 19-4,2 tyres, and they gives good traction on both hard and soft snow (I spiked a pair also, and they worked wery well on ice!)

Actually, I have never used the d.-lock, but I love the offroad appeal it gives, and it gave me an opportunity to play with the lathe and milling machine!
