Hello everyone,
I am a recent Ural owner and I am looking to add some saddle bags to my Ural Gear Up. I am interested in getting the leather bags not the metal tool box kind to hopefully lighten the weight. Does any one have any suggestions on the types of saddle bags to look into purchasing or what you may have found that work really well for Urals?
Also, do I need some sort of mounting frame on the saddle bags or does it just "hang" and don't have to worry about the bags swinging around?
Any suggestions or links are welcome and helpful!!
Thanks so much!!

You might also try a local military surplus store for medical/gear bags. Or google "cheaper than dirt" and see what they have. These are both budget ideas though, a little bit more $$$ and I'm sure you can get some pretty nice re-pro leather bags.

I have been using Ortleib bags:
http://www.ortliebusa.com/cartgenie/prodList.asp?scat=12with my KLR650 for the last 104 days on my wintertime odyssey around continental North America and they have worked very well so far. They have survived three or four stationary drops and have remained completely watertight despite the scuffing. They come with straps that you could probably attatch to the rear pegs on the Ural to keep them from flying off. I intend to use mine with my Ural. They are quite expenive but totally worth the money in my opinion. Ortleib bags are legendary in bike courier circles for NEVER letting in any moisture and standing up to all sorts of road-rash, sharp poky things, mislaid lit cigarettes and general brutality. They are made of the same stuff that those heavy-duty semi truck tarps are made of.

Thank you everyone!!
I'm checking everything out and seeing what I can find maybe locally and see what some local saddle shops. Keep suggestions coming, it seems that you don't need a steel frame to hold the bags out from the bike is this correct for most bags??

I've got some black leather bags that are kind of cruiser looking. Just threw them over the rear rack and tied them off.
Went to a benchseat so I don't need them anymore. Pay shipping and they are yours. Shoot me an e-mail if you want pics of the bags on my Tourist.

e4seter,
Off topic, but I have to ask. What mount did you use to attach the M1919A4 to the sidecar with? I have one and have been trying to figure out which one to use.

Thanks for the picture. I think I might be able to come up with something similar now that I have seen yours. It looks like you have the Ural mount on the sidecar.
