Hi,

I've been looking for a MMVZ-112 for quite a long time now and so far I've found only two places that might be able to get it to me here in California. Minsk supplier from minsksupplier.com and a Vietnamese travel company.

Is $550 a good deal for a second hand Minsk?

I'm looking into putting in a 4 stroke engine so I can have it licensed and use it for getting around town once I receive it of course.

-Thanks,

Tis all about location. While in Eastern Europe and Asia, 550$ is 250 $ too much. Although for a mint condition one, an extra 200-500$ is irrelevant 'cause you're never gonna get the original seat material, the paintjob & stripes, the chrome which make the Minsk lovable. If you get a Minsk that's been in the company of the family pig and used as an anvil, it's gonna be tough on your wallet to rescue.
If you're across an Ocean from the factory, stuff is different, the right price is the one you're willing to pay if you want the bike.
If they are really gonna charge you only 550$ for a dorstep delivery, I reccon that's fine.

The original Minsk 2 Stroke engine is as simple as it gets, I would keep it, dunno about regulations in your country. Them Minsks ever since the copy of the DKW RT 125 (which Harley also copied) , the K-125 ,have been popular cheap bikes for the masses. I am so nostalgic about the Minsk, it's the first bike I've sat on, since they were used as school bikes in Romania until 3-4 years ago. I later got to ride more of them just for fun. Them bikes could go around in circles at 5 km/h for hours, crash with no damage and repair without waiting 2 months for parts. A chain cover for those muddy days, which prolong the life of the 10$ chain to 15 000 km or more. I miss the pure iron no fuss, the irregular Minsk strokes, the smoke, the saddle and the character of the bike that barely reaches 60mph
But it's a bike, not a scooter.

Check out the Belarus MMVZ website for other models, they do have 4 stroke engines installed in their latest redesigns.
Vietnam only popularises the Minsk, but Russia and other former USSR states are filled with Minsks.

Also insist on getting spares at decent prices, you're gonna need them.

Hi, thanks for your reply,

The Vietnamese travel company pulled out of the deal as they thought I was in Vietnam which I am not nor did they want to ship it to the US in pieces. I unfortunately cannot keep the 2 stroke engine as in the US it's illegal to have a vehicle powered by a two stroke (although all our weed eaters, chain saws and model cars with engines still use two stroke engines..). So I've asked the romanian fellow who may be able to find one for me, to remove the motor and keep it or do whatever with it since it's basically extra weight and would be a huge hunk of metal that I would have to somehow dispose of.

I do know that if I replace the 2 stroke with a 4 stroke of equal size, I will lose HP so I'm wondering if I can put a bigger motor in.

As for restoring the bike, I have no plans of doing such a thing. If the seat or any parts need replacing I'm more likely to get some generic fabric or leather or xxxxx part rather than a factory replacement.
