Well winter is here with its ice and snow. Last winter we had alot of ice and even running Kenda 335's had a hard time going. Not this year.yesterday I took the rear tire on the bike off and had it studded and wow it wants to go on ice, not even a spin. I had to drill out the tire for the studs and it cost me $15.00 to have the studs put in but it was worth it. Rick

A studded Kenda 335 is THE Ural snow tire!!! thumbsup!.gif

Wonderful idea! I had no clue that you could actually have a tire studded that way - I thought you had to buy them pre-studded, so to speak....

I noticed the Dnepr toaster tank too - you must be among only a handful of Ural drivers that wears the toaster with such pride.

That's a lot cheaper than the set up I've been loooking into by a long shot. Seeing as I'm not going Ice racing this makes more sense!

What diameter drill did you use to pre drill for the studs?

I think I drilled them about one eighth in. I found that I could have drilled alot smaller hole after looking at a car tire that came with the holes. Go to your local tire shop and take alook at a tire set up for studs and ask the mech. what size he recomends. Rick

3/16" is the proper diameter drill bit to use. drill to the depth of stud to be used, I went 9/16" deep, Make sure You use a very secure form of depth stop, don't want to drill through the tire.

The most common stud is 15mm, the Kenda 335 can be drilled 9/16 or use screws up to 5/8.

Ice screws do work better than studs, but only last 100-200 km. Automotive studs last the life of the tire.
