Well I went to Loves Leathers just north of Vancouver and had them sew on my Russian Iron Patches to one of my leather vest. I did this so maybe if there ever is a gathering of the Russian Iron members here in the PNW I will be easy to spot. That said , I'm easy to spot anyway , I am a big fellow riding a piece of Russian Iron with a hack.
I won't be hanging out in biker bars wearing my colors looking for trouble, I figure the local M C clubs won't pay me any mind anyway.

Looks great , I would like to see a gathering of Russian Iron and all rides wearing thier patches. That would be a sight. To date the only place I have seen more than one Russian Iron rig was at the USCA sidecar rally in Chelan Washington last May. There were Three Urals ,
and of course the Ural dealer where I bought my rig. But there the rig's are in for service or for sale.
One day I will spot another Russian Iron rig on the road and I will be riding my rig not stuck driving a cage . Have a great day.

Sounds great , but a couple of things are in the way . I am about three and one half hours south of Seattle. The other thing is my better half is tugging at me to take her out to finish her Xmas shopping this afternoon. .
Thanks for the offer . Give me a little led time and I will make it up that way.
I work Sunday thru Thrusday so Friday and Saturday are my day's to play. That's why I have less than 20,000 km on my rig in three years.
Have fun today. Take pictures at the show.

A gaggle of Urals? Ron-Dee-Voo II back in 2005 we almost took the record of the most of a specific brand. Of course, BMW won, but we still had 19!

Here is a photo and, as you can see, not all bikes made it. Still impressive.

Hi guys, patch looks nice but, if you are fortunate to visit Australia DO NOT WEAR THE PATCH WITH A ROCKER - our 1%'s do not like any patch with a rocker, you are invading their territory???? Small minds etc??

Cheers.

Maybe this is a question for Charlie: How many patch sets have been sold or issued?

First I need to say , I just realized there was a similar posting back in May about Russian Iron patches. If I had realized this I would not have posted this topic.
From the posting in May Charlie stated that he has sent out 300 sets of Russian Iron patches.

My intent was to share my Enthusiasm , nothing more. I have been riding since the early sixties and road a hack in Europe in the mid sevenities for a couple of years when Uncle Sam allowed me to spend some quality time there .
The Russian Iron Forum is a nice place to come and talk about the rides ,the people , and basically anything you want to..

Enjoy the ride . I was told when I was much younger , The ride is the adventure not the destination.

I think JerseyBlues was responding to Rob Clarke. The 1%ers here do not have a problem with us when they know who we are. We are not a threat on thier territory. But they have to stay out of the sale of non DOT complaint original Russian parts laugh.gif

I would not go wandering in to a biker bar wearing my patches if I was un known. I would wear them to Siberia when I go back. I'd take Grahm and Julie's word for it if it's ok to wear them in Austraila. There is a lot of fear associatied with patches that Rob may be buying into. He could be right. You know Australains.

Exactly. I wouldn't wear it anywhere it would cause issues or trouble for anyone. Especially me. The dominant MC in my area knows we are independent and neutral (except as IVANGROZNEY said with regards to original Russian parts biggrin.gif ) and actually welcomed me to ride on toy runs etc wearing the RIMC colors.

I'll wear it when I'm in the company of other RIMC members, mostly. The most RIMC members wearing colors at one time that I ever saw was two. Next time I'm with those guys, it will be three. Maybe some day I will be at a gathering where there are 300!

I wear them proudly as an owner, operator and constant mechanic of a genuine Russian motorcycle and will spread the good will and courtesy of the RIMC.

Actually Rob was right, up to a point. Its NOT ok to wear a patch on your back in Australia unless its been ok'd by 1%. and the Russian Iron one would not be ok'd. Not out of snobbery or small mindedness. It is considered extremely disrespectful to wear a 3 peice cut. If not out of respect for those that have earnt their cut by committing to their Club, then you may wish to consider the fact that you are now not allowed to enter any licensed premises (in West Australia at least) wearing any MC club insignia at all, including tattoo's, shirts, belts.
The biggest threat of getting hassled in Australia for wearing a patch is from the police. 1% will certainly ask you to remove it, and I recommend friendly compliance, but our police will detain you on the roadside, take your photo, all your personal details, and try and find any charge they can think of that might stick.
Please note, I am talking about back patches only, for all the avid embroidery collectors out there feel free to sew away to your hearts content.

If the police in Australia pull me over for it I'd ask them to pose for pictures and post it here. Our patch is not an offical 3 piece rocker. I have the MC part attached with velcro so I can remove it, just incase that is a problem. As I have heard for certain bars.

how did this go from some one being proud of his/her vest with the Russian iron patches on it . all they want to do was show it off to all of us on this form/club me included i have sent all over the world for patches just for my vest Dnepr, Russian iron, Ural zentrel , red star, just to name a few and i still have more coming . not to get off track on the 1% that dose not like it.. lest get back on track here people some place some one said there was 300 sets of Russian iron patch's sold . then there should be more than just 3 pics on this discussion

It would seem we could blame Rob for that. I am kicking myself that I don't have any pictuers of the back of my vest. As one that shakes hands with the Hells Angles in NYC every year and OK'd our patches with them I have less fear and misconceptions about this than some. They're just a bunch of guys you know.

Its wonderful that the internet thingo can bring people from all different cultures together. In the US many social clubs wear a three piece patch. In Australia there's only a handful. I was mearly explaining the way things are here. In the scheme of things we are a penal colony settled only a couple of hundred years ago. I'm not used to dealing with people who are easily offended, but this place is a wealth of information, and I've done my best not to offend.

Hello JerseyBlues, this question of patches,if you are unsure of the response from the 1%ers,either go to where they hang out[dont wear the mc patch],and
have a chat,or write a letter to the sec of said club[enclose an sae!].be polite and curtious and show respect, and then see what happens. They may have no problem with the mc part of the patch-if they do,ask if it is ok to put a 'c' on the end to make m.c.c.

I haven't gotten around to sewing my RI patches onto a vest yet but you might enjoy the story about this vest. You will note a 3-piece patch but one the 1% crowd pretty much leaves alone. (Last year a bunch of outlaws jumped some Blue Knights at a bar out in SD and, when the smoke cleared, one biker was shot and, I believe, killed.)

Anyhow, the vest bears a BMW patch and a Ural patch for the two bikes I ride. Above the BMW patch is a German police patch and, of course, above the Ural patch is a Rooski police patch. What I didn't know when I got it was exactly what the OMOH was. Turns out the little old lady who sewed the patches on is Russian. When she saw it, she reacted like a German would if they found a Gestapo agent at their front door. Turns out the OMOH are mainly riot police and are NOT nice people in any way, shape or form. We had to assure here I was not of that ilk!

And yet you still got her to sew the OMOH patch on Sarge? Yeah I thought so. Thats what gets up peoples noses, the patch means nothing to you, yet still finds a place on your vest.
Imitation is a form of flattery, do ya reckon we'll see 1%ers dressing up like coppers anytime in the future?

Hey Becky, I'll pay the postage, it'll be the best christmas present ever, our first ever white christmas......yeeha.
