Simple Inexpensive Ural Tractor Seat Spring mod that works!

Since I'm not in the market for spending $165 or $300 to modify my ural tractor seat  so that I won't break my a$$, I came up with this:

1. I took the tractor seat with base base off the bike, and then removed the stiff rubber block. - No need to remove the seat itself from the base plate: leave it attached to the front bolt which it pivots on.

2.  I bought a set of black 3" springs from eBay for $10.95, shipping included:


3 I welded a piece of 1/8" x 3/4 " bar stock onto the seat, just aft of where the rubber block had been, and drilled holes in it to line up with the outer holes already drilled into the base mounting plate for the seat.

4. I attached the springs to the bar stock and the Base plate with the appropriate size bolts and washers.

5. Remounted the whole affair back on the bike.

Voila! Perfect! Just the right amount of springiness for me (I'm a 165 lib lightweight). If a person needed a stiffer ride, it would be simple add a third spring between the other two, mounted in the same manner.
