What: the 7th Sidecar and Commie Bike Rally of Romania, Charlie23 and I are attending  once a year.
When: 25-27 July
Who: communist bike owners (Soviet, Eastern European brands, a Chinese CJ750 was present once also), sidecar machines (our kind or new hacks), classic/vintage motorcycles (more than 25 years since the type manufacture stop)
Where: Central/Eastern Europe- Romania, Cuca mountain lodge in the Carpathians, near old town Campulung Muscel, (http://www.romaniapi....ro/cabana-cuca)
Google Earth coordinates 45o 28' 30.10"N , 25o 2' 47.19" E , or GPS Lat.:45.4750839867; Long.:25.046115614528
it is reachable via an 18km good asphalt road and 4 kms moutain earth trail.

Cuca is basically an old school mountain lodge that is there for no real profit, to support mountain goers in the old Alpine style, wood heating, army barracks interior,2 outside toilets, a pipe drawing water from the river, only hot water in the kitchen and some electricity from a solar panel, then there's guitars and the sort of people that like to sit back.
There is the option to camp by the lodge courtyard, by a clear river at 1200m altitude.
Travelers needing better lodging will be happy at Voina Cabin which is 4km downstream and equipped with most modern facilities, still retaining some old school mountain charm, but it will also house all sorts of tourists - no .

So: Any RIMC member seeking to travel to Romania either living in a neighboring state (like Charlie23) or just passing by on a Ural/Dnepr adventure is more than welcome to join our gang which I estimate to reach around 50 such bikes.
We've got some nice wild mountains, some old stuff to visit in the town and a new to open ARO/IMS museum - the defunct 4x4 jeep cars that beat the Land Rover and Defender in the 60'ties.
Most of us know good English, you'll feel OK, If interested please contact me with a private message and I can arrange lodging and directions.

A look into past editions of this rallye one can find on Charlie23's site goodkarmaproductions.com under rides&rallyes, one was like this http://www.fleshandr...ff7dec4ddb8b4f6

Wow, the countryside looks like the Pacific Northwest in the USA. Even a totem, in front of the lodge. Is that a Romanian symbol?
It really looks like Native American.

Just decoration, it is not a romanian sign. But we have beautiful mountains. This is a romanian symbol:

My thoughts too!
And gorgeous fauna by the creek...

My Romanian Friends who live here in Seattle, WA, USA, confirm the similarities in the regions.

Yeah, does one of the native heavenly creatures come with each campsite?

A colleague told me that in the past (20 years ago) there were bears and wolves near the Cuca mountain lodge. I guess now you can meet bears but I don't know about the wolves.

It was a very nice natural setting. There were a few showers, we've had a rainy summer, the final mile to the 1200 m cabin was bumpy, but overall the meeting turned out very nice. Still we cannot increase the number of attendants on the motorcycles that count, personal finances and maybe also the reliability of Japs keep the number at around 30 bikes.

We've had the amazing visit of 4 Czech motorcyclists on their small capacity 2 stroke Jawa's the oldest of which was from the 40ties. They were making a Central to Eastern Europeean tour and were also drawn to our meeting. The bravest of us Romanians came on an Izh Planeta with a sidecar from 500 miles away.

The "Romanian Made Cars" Museum of Campulung is not a large museum by any standard but is worthwhile with it's collection of restored or still unrestored cars and rare documents, photos, memorabillia of the succeses of the industry abroad.
