FART 04 Bikes

Hide the kid, hide the wife! Here comes the Fall Annural Rebellious Tour!

When: Second week of October (same as it ever was). October 10, 11, 12, 2014

Where: Asheville, NC. Well actually, Swannanoa (just east of Asheville) at the KOA campground. 2708 U.S. 70, Swannanoa, NC 28778
(828) 686-3121.  Say the words, "I'm with the Russian Motorcycle Rally" and you will receive a 10% discount. Link to KOA

I've rented  sites K-21 and 3 & 4 as Rally Central. For maximum fun and frolic, please rent the cabins and spaces adjoining as you can see in the map below.

FART 2014 KOA Map

What will happen:

Friday Night: Dinner out will be at the Historic Monte Vista Hotel in Black Mountain. The owner is very laid back - don't be intimidated by the website. We'll be dining in our own space while the Russian biker documentary "Normalno" plays in the background. Teaser: Russian Iron member Harleych has a starring role and sent me a copy packed in a headlight many, many years ago.

Saturday: Lots of interesting things to see and do in the area. For those who choose not to strike out on their own, I will be leading a group ride along some scenic back roads to Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack for lunch. For the survivors, I'll provide the traditional soup-pot supper on Saturday night. Prizes? Yep. Beer? Of course. Vodka? You betcha.

Sunday: Pack up. Tearful goodbyes. For the willing and able, we'll take a little ride the back way to Weaverville with a stop at the Folk Art Center for those who are interested (if you have a wife with you, you will pretend to be interested).

Hey! A big thank you to the irrepressible Rich Maund  for hosting FART and keeping the dream alive while I was trapped near the inner circle of thought. A big shout out to the immortal Steve Jackson for starting this rally back when Urals had only 650 engines and dinosaurs roamed the earth. We stand on the shoulders of giants...

Hope to see you all there!

Glenn,  You might want to post over at Soviet Steeds, as well.  Not everyone is on both sites.

No can do, Richard. I have heard of this thing that you call the "Soviet Steeds." Is that the site with the horse with the wrench in its mouth? They have an interest in Russian Motorcycles?  I would be pleased if you, or anyone else, would post a link to Russian Iron and this announcement.

By the way, the F.A.R.T. prize committee considers you a shoe-in for the 1st Annural "Soulful Wrench" award. Hope you and Jan can make it!

I'll be happy to post on Soviet Steeds. I got into to this after the RI/SS split, so it is all kinda foolish to me only because I don't have a clue nor really want one about it... (ok, I do, but really don't care. It's about the bikes to me.)

<time passes>

It's on Soviet Steeds (Glenn, that would be the site with the wrench eating horse) and looks as close to the original ad here as possible. Hope to see you all there.

Sorry for the discomfort - please indulge me a bit of the occasional ever-so-gentle chain yanking

And just to be clear, there was never a Mean Girls Manifesto from me.

I think the whole thing is hilarious to me. And they way the to forums have matured is rather interesting and complementary IMHO. Sayting that, response on SS is overwhelming. Gonna be a good and may be big one! And I like chain yanking! I get in trouble on the Facebook Ural page from time to time for doing it...

I just scored a case of Old Engine Oil for the rally. Of course, now it's a case minus one. Posted Image

Yep, I'll be there too.  Just made my reservation - I think I'm in site D-4.

Have to skip out early Sunday to make DogFest, but the Fri/Sat agenda sounds fantastic.  Looking forward to the rally!
