You don't need to read Russian. That lighter is on the European Ural site http://www.ural-motorcycles.com/index.php?accessoires_main along with a few other things not offered in the US.

Re. the Ural Zippo lighter...

Located a source, but I don't want one anymore...

http://www.f2motorcycles.ltd.uk/otherstuff.html

Once I put the price thru a currency converter, I decided I could live without it... $80.00 USD is WAY too damned steep, even for a REAL Zippo! :atombomb: And that doesn't include mailing cost from England.

Managed to find the lighter on a few other sites... just as bad. Try 50 Euros.

Let's see... for 5 Zippos, I could do the Denso alternator upgrade on The Gremlin...

Naw... I oughta give up smoking anyway...

This site will help: http://babel.altavista.com/translate.dyn

But 50 Euros is about $75 US plus shipping.

I ain't goin no $75 for a Zippo. If a Ural Zippo become available for $20 mabey $25 tops I'd go for it. Heck they are still made in Pensilvania. I bet we could get an order of custom made Russian Iron lighters for less that $30 each. That would be cool. I'm sure Terry would give us permission if we asked for it.

To make the deal even worse... from the pictures it appears to me that the Ural Zippo is SILKSCREENED, not engraved!

How long is it gonna take for THAT to get scraped off? :unsure2:

I did a bit of snooping around on EPAY, and I got high bid on something even cooler, IMHO... not only more authentic, but a HELL of a lot cheaper!

My only question... what does "BY" stand for in Russian Cyrillic?

f2 motorcycles is selling that zippo to us brits for £40 hmmm thats way too expensive for us as well, i bet david who runs f2 m/c doesn't sell many of em.

£20 gets us a plain zippo from the local stores.

dont knock f2 m/c's tho its a real bike shop giving you good advice rather than selling you parts you don t need.

Just to let you know I contacted Zippo and explained that I sell their lighters and would like to sell the Ural lighter and asked if I could get them. Their reply was that Ural lighters are only sold in Europe. I think I will be contacting them again and explaining the number of Ural drivers there are and try to budge them into selling them here. An update (and the punch line) on my Russian (not Ural) lighter...

It just arrived from the EBAY seller.

It may seem a bit fishy that a real Zippo would wind up with a Soviet insignia on it, but it's not that odd. Zippos are known and coveted throughout the world; it wouldn't be too hard for a Soviet soldier or government official traveling outside of the country to get one, and add the insignia later.

That's what this appears to be... on the surface.

HOWEVER... Zippo lighters are marked on the base with a manufacturing date code.

The USSR began collapsing in 1991. The date code on this beast says "E XIII"... or May of 1997!!! :beer!:

The Soviet badge, whatever it denotes, appears to be MUCH older, and authentic.

I'm not dissapointed, nor do I feel ripped off; rather, I'd like to know what the REAL story of this lighter is.

If nothing else... it looks and feels like a real piece of the old Soviet Union. It's a reliable old Zippo, with plenty of "character marks", but otherwise in good shape.

It makes a good partner for Soviet era KGB hip flask that rides in my inside jacket pocket! :thumbsup!:
