Raceway Tank Shifter/Reverse Finder Kit

I just received my tank shifter/reverse kit from Raceway. I plan to do the installation on Saturday.

Any advice for the install? The instructions furnished are pretty complete but...

Do I absolutely have to remove the fuel tank from my GearUp for the install? Any tips for tank removal?

Any thing else I should watch for or be careful about? :thumbsup!:

Thanks

Ride it around as much as you can and get the tank as empty as possible.

Get ya a funnel with a long hose and an empty gas can. Put the funnel under the petcock and unscrew the petcock and drain the gas into the can.

Once that's done, find the crossover tube at the back of the tank and pull the end off the bottom of the tank on the side closest to you and catch the gas coming out with the funnel.

Tank is drained.

Do this outside away from flame sources and don't smoke while you do it! :unsure2:

Hey John,

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but since I know your Raven is one of the newer additions, can you tell me what kind of breakin proceedure you followed?

Much appreciated! :thumbsup!:

Keep it under 50mph for the first 500km, then do the 500km service (change oil, torque heads, adjust valves, tighten fastners, etc.).

Then ride it like you stole it... :unsure2:

Thanks john! You just made my day!! I have been lucky enough to commute to work and keep her at a max speed of 40MPH, but you made me feel more at ease with the break in!

Cheers John!! I hope one day I can make it to a rally in Florida. My cousin married a "Florida Yank" and they live in Tampa....That would be quite the ride from Ottawa!!

I did not have to remove the tank on my 2005 Patrol. It was, however, necessary to hold my mouth just right, and make sure there were no small children present. If I do another one, I will remove the tank.

Anybody have a link to Raceway handy?

How much is the kit?

Look for "Joe DeWeese" here. I think that's the guy or click on the dealer list on the IMWA site. I think they are in Oregon.

Every time I've looked them up on the internet, the site has the usual OEM stuff, but nothing about the custom parts they make. Phone call might work better (unless they've upgraded the site recently...)

MIne cost $364 and change for the 2 lever kit delivered to Minnesota. Quality of the assembly looks excellent. I still haven't found time to install it yet. Maybe this weekend... :blush2:

Excellent quality and finish, relatively straight forward assembly (I am thinking the instructions were written by an engineer, they are detailed).

However, use Locktite on the bolt holding the plate coming out from under the tank on the left side, it tends to vibrate loose. Both mine and another Canadian Curdite lost ours about the same time.

Good news is that it is standard bolt.

All though I am not Canadian, I lost that same bolt. (If it matters, I have been to Canada, not on a Ural though)

As a wise man once said, "blue loctite is your friend".

First of all, the construction of this assembly is absolutely first rate. Naturally, since I have a Gear Up, I would have preferred black instead of chrome but...

Installation took quite a bit of time. First I drained and removed the gas tank.

The gear selector installs as a replacement for the top motor mount and is easy. Next, the linkage was connected to the reverse selector down by the right foot peg. Linkage between the various bell cranks have heim joints or rod ends at all pivot points. The installation of a bell crank assembly on the left side at the crash bar took a bit of head scratching as the linkage from the shift rod pivot down to a bell crank and then back to the foot shift pedal would not fit. The instructions cautioned to only disassemble the parts at two points. Well, it just would not come together. There are several pictures with the instructions and finally, the light bulb in my head went off. The assembly, as received was incorrect. Swapping the two linkage rods did the trick. It was kind of fiddly, but once the linkage rods were adjusted and readjusted, it was time for a test ride.

Absolutely great on the road. I had been having a bit of problems shifting by foot with the heavy bulky boots I wear. Gear selection by hand results in positive gear selection now. The clunk has reduced in volume by at least 1/2.

No more problems finding neutral. Select reverse with the reverse lever and then unselect reverse. Bingo, you are in neutral.

Used a lot of locktite...

I highly recommend this product
