Clutch Plates - Wrong Orientation

Recommended Posts

Friend had a clutch screw back out.  He took it apart and while in there, changed the clutch pack including pressure plate, rod etc.  Afterwards, he had trouble with the clutch dragging.

I looked at it and we played with bearing blocks (I have many) to increase the actuation length and although better, it was still dragging.  He took the tranny off and I see the clutch discs are installed backwards; raised side is facing the engine.

I have an old clutch pack, so I played with it on the bench.  I couldn't conclude if the orientation mattered much.

Does anyone know if the orientation matters?

Could this be the cause of the clutch dragging issue?
