    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a reminder that Mr Cob will be arriving at my house tomorrow evening(Friday).

We'll be taking a ride to the Minnesota Vietnam Memorial at the state capitol in St Paul on Saturday. .

We'll be meeting up at Parking Lot H off John Ireland Blvd around 10:30 plus or minus a few minutes.

Photo op at Mickey's Diner in downtown and then to St Anthony Falls Lock and Dam across the river in Minneapolis.

Dave will be interviewed by Minnesota Motorcycle Monthly for an upcoming article on his adventures traveling the USA>

Food and plenty of B.S. late in the afternoon at my home on Saturday.

My address is 8792 Norway St NW, Coon Rapids MN

mapquest will show you where that's at or call me at 763-785-4995.

This may be your ONLY chance to meet Dave(Mr Cob)

Ride your bike if possible but please try to attend with or without.

    An RSVP would be wonderful.

  2. I spoke to Dave Hooker(MR COB) on Sunday regarding his arrival in Minnesota in early September. He will be headed into Northern Minnesota right after Labour Day. Then heading south to the Minneapolis area and arriving at my home late on Friday September 5th.

I am planning a short ride on Saturday morning September 6th for him and then a get together at my home in the afternoon. All are welcome for the ride also.

Please consider this an open invitation to anyone who wishes to attend. The gathering is planned to begin around 3 P.M. This is not a pot luck deal. We will furnish food, soft drinks, plenty of b.s. and a warm welcome. Our place is small but it's home to us. Anyone wishing to have a stronger beverage, please bring your own. And please, try to drive your Ural or other bike if possible. Impress/irritate my geezer neighbors.

I would like to have a head count, so to speak. by September 4th for planning purposes. .

  4. This week end this old man took a ride, home to The little town of Cornocopia, Wi, up on lake Superior, Bought me a Wally world pup tent, slept on the ground, in a sleeping bag, now know and have a name for each rock up there., not nice. Stopped to fuel up, topped it up good, tighten the gas cap snug, went about 5 miles and "Sweet Thang" went to running on one cyl, first one then the other, back off on the throttle a bit, and would start running fine for a couple of hundred yards. Checked all the obvious things, didn't seem to fit any pattern, then it dawned on me and I lossened the gas cap, and she took off. The tiny vent hole in the cap, simply would not supply enuff air.....This can cause a lean condition at high cruise, that can lead to detonation and piston failure, so check your cap.....

The whole trip with the side detours was just under 600 miles, Sweet thang drank about a pint of Mobil one, bought a tom tom while at wally world at 145.00, worked nice, ran most of the trip at 55mph on the gps, I was really pleased with the way the bike ran, plenty of power and fuel mileage was about 37-38. Going to do some more of this if I can get away, It left me somewhat pooped, but what who cares ......Ken

Geez, something else to worry about. Improperly venting gas cap. Will it ever end? :feelssogood:

  5. First of all, thanks, for the quick, friendly, reassuring responses to my post about the Patrol. I have decided to buy a Black 2008 Patrol, and now have some further questions.

My idea is to use this as a winter vehicle in place of an auto, and I plan to take to the roads with it regardless of weather, barring ice, but especially in fresh snow (Yes, I have a winter car if needed).

I plan to use the knobby tires in the Ural accessory catalog.

I have yet to work out a windshield/wiper, so would like thoughts on that.

This project has reached a point where I need to know more about the electrical capabilities of the bike. Specifically, how much does it put out, and will I have enough to run a few hundred watts of equipment?

Will the Ural run a full Gerbing suit with socks/gloves, heated faceshield, as well an electric heater in the sidecar? Plus a satellite radio and radar. Should I scale back from using about 550 watts? Recently, I had been running all of this on a daily driver BMW with a similar charging output. Is the Ural any different?

What, if anything, has been done to modify the sidecar for such use? Does anyone enclose the car, and if so do they heat it?

I would like to be able to carry a passenger in the car comfortably. If my passenger was in heavy leather gear and proper boots and gloves, layered appropriately, how many blankets should I have in the trunk for her?

    Thanks in advance,

    Pete

Well, for starters, you can ditch the radar detector. The rig won't go fast enough to get you in trouble unless you are really careless in a school zone. That should save you a few watts. :feelssogood:

  6. Saw your bike there, but didn't see you until you were leaving. Had to get back to our meet at the fairgrounds. Lots of interesting sh.. uh bikes and people, but i've been going to that for about 11 years now.

I saw YOU when you rode in but the wife was pulling me in the opposite direction. It was only my second time at Nicollet Island. I took some pictures and will be posting them soon. I had a good time. The "interesting" one is the Bearded Lady Freak Show in July at the 331 Club on University Avenue. Some of the scenery there is "great" :thumbsup!: but the wife won't let me go alone.

  7. Good job redflasher! I'm guessing that's the one Paul ment. I could not find it myself so I am saving a copy to my own files. I like how those clever Russians rigged up an exaust shield.

Unless you're the lead dog, the view never changes...

  8. quote<Downshifting is a minor problem that you get used to... toe UNDER the shifter and LIFT.

Downshifting eats boot toes. I find myself getting a length of clear vinyl tubing (1.5" I.D., usually sold to local dairy farmers for milking machine connections) and sliding a hunk of it on the toe shifter to keep the boot damage to a minimum. It seems to last 3 - 4 weeks before it stretches out too much, falls off & gets lost>quote

I can't picture this. I up shift with the heel-pressing down-I downshift with the toe-pressing down. Or I use my hand shifter pushing forward to up shift or pulling back to downshift-racheting through the gears one by one.

  9. I'm having so much fun on my GearUp that I don't care about the mileage. I just stop and fill up when the trip meter hits 150 km. Usually takes about 2 or 2.3 gallons of hi test. Which right now in Minnesota costs most of a ten spot. I could probably get better mileage if I wasn't goosing it so much.

  10. Hey All,

Rounded up a 96' tourist the other day  , got it home cleaned the carbs, syncd, replaced all fuel lines and filters, flushed tank, cleaned petcock.

Running stock Mikuni carbs, jetted at P=35 M=110 air screw 1.75 out. needle on richest setting (tried middle) Carb adapters aren't the prettiest. But anyhow I wack the throttle and a huge bog and dies if I don't tickle it back to life, or trying to take off it won't rev up and dies.

    Plenty of fuel in lines.

I'm new to Ural and am stumped.

I've searched and couldn't find the LIGHT in a post.

    Any ideas would be great.

    Elevation around 850'

    Thanks,

    Wade

    A bit off topic but

The United Sidecar Association is having their national rally in Duluth on the June 13 weekend at the Buffalo Campground. I guarantee you would have some fun if you attend.

  11. My Wife and I got married there. She is from Kosire which is in southwest Prague. I love it there. We split our time between Kansas and Prague. What is even better is that Czechvar(the original Budweiser) is now imported to the states.

I see you live part time in Gardner Kansas. I lived at the Navy base there in 1954-55. My Dad was stationed there and I really liked it. I understand the Navy base is long gone. We lived in the housing just outside the gate and I was in the Boy Scouts in Gardner. Gardner was so small then that the movie theater consisted of a sheet hung on a rope between two trees in a vacant lot and a borrowed projector from the base.

  12. dealer installed items ,how do the metal side covers come off, if that is how the battery is accessed just in case i ever need too one day, going to have to check water eventually,on my recently purchused rig,and is a battery tender still needed if im riding it once or twice weekly

Left one just pulls off. Right one is more difficult.

  13. Hello,

I am looking for a hitch to use with a small, motorcycle sized tent trailer with my 2006 Gear Up. The warranty has expired, so I won't be voiding it.

There was a dealer in Canada, Scootgo in Alberta, but it looks like thier web page is down.

Any other suppliers of a hitch suitable for a 2wd Ural?

    Thanks in advance.

Gene from "Holopaw Corvette" sells - I think he makes 'em - trailer

hitches for Urals ... including the 2WD versions. I do recall he said

they won't fit if you've mounted an extra gas can on the inside rear

    of the hack.

I believe there are some pictures on his web site ...

    http://holopawcorvette.webpointusa.com

He accepts checks, but isn't equipped to do credit cards.

I'll be getting one for my GearUP as soon as the warranty expires. I have done business with Gene and like his style.

  14. Howdy All,

I have watching this thread with interest. The one thing I am concerned about when using this particular CHT gage is that it is NOT ambient temperature compensated. This leaves me wondering if the readings being displayed are the actual CHT. Looking through the different gages offered for sale, I could not find a "dual" gage setup that was temperature compensated.

This brings me to my question, those of you who have this CHT gage, have you noticed different readings depending on the ambient air temp?

I haven't had my gauge long enough to experience a wide variety of temps, but the instructions are pretty clear that this doesn't compensate and that for every degree above or below 75F ambient temp you need to either add or knock off a degree to/from the reading. Pretty straight forward.

Somehow, I lost the instructions for my gauge and need to see the part that tells about knocking off or adding degrees depending on ambient temperature. Can some one help me out with a copy of the instructions?

    Thanks in advance

Never mind, called the company and the gauge is calibrated at 75 deg. Depending on ambient temp, just subtract or add the degrees different from 75.

Westach refreshed my memory via email in 45 minutes.

  16. Howdy, all:

So, my speedo quit rather spontaneously... '01 Deco (650)... about 1,000 miles on the clock. Now, I know I'm not going to break any land speed records, but it'd be good to know how close I am to 25 mph in the school zones. Well, how close I am to 40 kph, anyway.

My speedo jumps around so much I have only a vague notion of speed. Buy a cheapo GPS and handlebar mount. My $100 Garmin will give me speed, trip odometer, time, direction. etc.
